2009 - Year in Review

Posted Friday, November 06, 2009 by Marc Manning
The '09 season did not end in a way the Berkeley football family had hoped, but the Bulldogs did may great things on the gridiron over the last few months.
  • A week two 14-12 2nd half rally over playoff calibre Imagine Prep was the largest come-from-behind victory for the Bulldogs under head coach Howard Brown.
  • Junior WR Lonell Watkins led the Suburban East Conference in TD catches and receiving yards.
  • In his 1st season playing football, senior Darius Redmond was 2nd on the team in total yardage.
  • Seven different Berkeley defenders intercepted a pass in 2009. Free safety Mervin Hayes led MS-B with 3, tied for 3rd most in the conference.
  • Raymon Williams' 200 rushing yards versus Clayton were the third most yards by a Berkeley RB in the last 5 years.
  • 3 year starter at QB Kendrell Townsel nearly broke his own school record for pass yards in a season, threw more TDs than interceptions for the 1st time as a Bulldog, improved his completion percentage for the 3rd consecutive year and completed more passes than any other Suburban East Conf. QB.
  • Barry Bryant started at 3 different positions - center, right tackle, tight end - running his string of consecutive games started to 23 in a row.
  • John Sharkey's 5 QB sacks puts him among the league leaders in only his sophomore year, while senior Terrell Harmon chipped in with 4 more and an explosive forced fumble vs. Trinity that led to a Berkeley touchdown.
Congratulations to all the Bulldog football players for their achievements on the field during the 2009 season!
